Blokees: blind boxes you build yourself
Blokees blind boxes contain a small snap-fit model kit instead of a finished figure, so you get a short, tool-free build as well as the surprise. They are also the most affordable way into collecting: the DC Defender Batman series starts at €4.95 and Naruto GV04 at €7.95. The Miku Terrace Party figures are about 6 cm tall and the factory-sealed set box of 6 costs €49.95, so you pay for 5 of the 6 boxes. See all Blokees or read What is Blokees?.
POP MART: finished designer figures
POP MART figures come ready to display, and for Midlane Icons and The Grand Line Vehicles a whole set contains no repeats. The Arcane figures are about 12–14 cm tall, larger than most blind box figures, and the series has two secrets at 1/72 each. Midlane Icons has one secret at 1/96. If you collect ships, The Grand Line Vehicles has 12 regular One Piece ships. More background in What is POP MART?.
Pokémon blind boxes
For Pokémon fans who don't want to hunt for a secret, Funism Adventure! Eevee Series has 9 designs and no secret figure: every box holds Eevee or one of its eight Evolutions, at 1/9 per design. Re-Ment Pokémon Japanese Window has 6 designs, each a figure with a window backdrop. Read more in What is Funism?.
More series worth a look
Re-Ment My Hero Academia Desktop Heroes (€11.95) has no secret and a full set contains all 6 designs. Bandai PLABAKO Digimon Vol. 2 (€22.95) contains a mini plastic model kit with a clear box that doubles as a display case.
Tips: when is a blind box worth it?
- You want one specific figure: buying single boxes can lead to duplicates. Consider whether you would also enjoy the other designs.
- You want the whole series: a factory-sealed set box is usually the better deal. Check the product page to see whether the set contains every regular design.
- You want a secret: treat it as a bonus, not a goal. Odds like 1/72 or 1/144 mean most collectors never pull one.
- Set a budget before you start, especially with cheaper series where it is easy to buy "just one more".
