This guide covers the YKO sets we stock, how mini blocks work, who they suit, and how to choose your first YKO build.

The YKO ships

YKO's ships are compact display models built from small mini blocks, which lets them pack in a lot of detail: crews, oars, lanterns and billowing sails.

  • P1197 Dragon Boat (1,404 pieces): a festive red dragon boat with a golden dragon head and tail, a crew of rowers with oars and a drummer. About 16.9 cm long.
  • P1198 Golden Sail Ship (1,040 pieces): a red and gold ceremonial sailing ship with billowing golden sails, a decorated cabin and lanterns. About 18.6 cm long and 17.6 cm tall.
  • P1199 Junk Ship (1,190 pieces): a traditional Chinese junk with a red hull and tall ribbed yellow sails. About 17.2 cm tall.

At over 1,000 pieces for €9.95, these are some of the best-value builds in our shop. They are rated 14+, because the mini blocks are small and the builds are detailed.

The YKO Flower Vase Bouquet

The P2350 Flower Vase Bouquet is the first vase in YKO's Bricks Bouquet series. It builds an orange faceted vase with a bouquet of a red rose, a sunflower, a white camellia, a rose bud and green sprigs, from 283 pieces. It is rated 6+, so it is a nice flower build to share with a younger family member.

What are mini blocks?

Mini blocks click together just like standard bricks, but they are smaller. More, smaller pieces mean finer detail in a compact model: a whole dragon boat crew fits into less than 17 cm. Because they are a different size, mini blocks do not combine with LEGO or other standard-size bricks.

Why YKO ships are fun to build

There is something special about building a ship: the hull takes shape first, then the deck, and finally the sails and decorations bring it to life. YKO's ships add little stories along the way, like the drummer keeping the dragon boat crew in time. With more than a thousand pieces each, they are a long, calm build for an evening or two, and the finished ships look lovely together on a shelf. Because each one is under 20 cm, you can display all three in the space of a single large set.

They also make great gifts for anyone interested in boats, history or Chinese culture, and the dragon boat is a fun way to talk about the Dragon Boat Festival. Tip: build on a tray, sort the colours first and keep the sail pieces apart until you need them.

Which YKO set should I choose?

  • The most detailed: the P1197 Dragon Boat, with 1,404 pieces and a full crew.
  • Golden sails: the P1198 Golden Sail Ship.
  • Classic sailing ship: the P1199 Junk Ship.
  • Flower lovers or younger builders: the P2350 Flower Vase Bouquet.
