Build a motorized giant of the ocean
Bring one of the ocean’s most impressive creatures to life with the MJI 13059 Mechanical Whale.
Built from 1,388 pieces, this large mechanical construction model combines the recognisable form of a whale with exposed gears, articulated mechanisms and futuristic industrial detailing.
Once assembled, activate the electric motor to bring the whale to life. The internal mechanism creates coordinated movement through the mouth, fins and tail, while integrated lighting adds an atmospheric glow to the completed display.
At approximately 46 cm long, the Mechanical Whale is an impressive building project and a striking kinetic display model.
Motorized mechanical movement
The included motor powers the internal gear and linkage system, transforming the completed whale from a static display into a moving mechanical model.
The drivetrain transfers movement through multiple sections of the body, creating a coordinated swimming effect while the whale remains elevated above its display base.
The mechanical construction remains visible throughout the model, making the engineering itself part of the finished design.
Moving mouth
The whale's jaw forms part of the mechanical movement system.
During operation, the mouth opens and closes, adding another layer of movement to the model and helping recreate the natural motion of the animal.
Moving side fins
Both side fins are integrated into the mechanical system.
Their movement works together with the mouth and rear body to give the model a more complete swimming motion instead of relying on a single moving feature. The standard MJI 13059 mechanism is documented as operating the mouth, fins and tail together.
Dynamic tail movement
The rear body and tail use linked mechanical components to create an animated swimming motion.
As the motor drives the mechanism, the tail and fluke move rhythmically, producing one of the most eye-catching effects of the completed model.
Integrated lighting
Built-in illumination gives the Mechanical Whale an additional futuristic element.
Lights positioned within the model highlight its mechanical styling and transparent details, making the whale particularly striking when displayed in a darker environment. MJI 13059 is documented with integrated illumination on both sides of the model.
1,388-piece mechanical build
With 1,388 building components, MJI 13059 offers a substantial construction experience.
The build combines:
- Structural building elements
- Gears and axles
- Mechanical linkages
- Exterior body panels
- Moving jaw components
- Moving side fins
- Articulated tail construction
- Motorized drive components
- Lighting components
- Elevated display-stand components
The result is a model in which the internal engineering is just as important as the exterior appearance.
Large 46 cm display model
Once assembled, the complete model measures approximately:
46 × 29 × 21 cm
Its approximately 46 cm length gives the Mechanical Whale substantial shelf presence, making it ideal for a display cabinet, large shelf, desk or dedicated building-model collection.
Futuristic semi-mechanical design
MJI combines the natural proportions of a whale with an industrial mechanical aesthetic.
The completed model features visible gears, structural framework, metallic-style components, transparent elements and exposed mechanical details throughout the body.
This gives the whale the appearance of an engineered marine creature while retaining its recognisable organic silhouette.
Elevated display stand
The Mechanical Whale is positioned above the surface on its dedicated support structure.
The elevated design creates the impression of the whale swimming through the water while providing a stable base for its mechanical movement.
The stand also integrates naturally into the engineering-focused appearance of the completed build.
ABS building-block construction
The model is constructed primarily from ABS plastic components.
Its structural elements, gears and interconnected mechanical components provide the rigidity needed for a large moving model while supporting repeated operation of the mechanical system.

Important information
This product is supplied as an unassembled motorized building set. Product images showing the completed and operating model are for illustration.
The included electric motor powers the whale's internal gear and linkage system.
The moving mechanism operates several areas of the model, including the mouth, side fins and tail.
Before switching on the motor, make sure the gear train, axles and mechanical linkages have been assembled correctly and can move freely.
If the mechanism becomes obstructed during operation, switch the model off before checking or adjusting the moving components.
Do not force the mouth, fins, tail or other motor-driven components while the motor is operating.
Keep fingers, hair, loose clothing and other objects away from moving gears and mechanical parts during operation.
The integrated lighting and electrical components are not waterproof. Despite the marine theme, keep the model away from water and excessive moisture.
Support articulated sections close to their connection points when manually repositioning the model.
Switch the electrical system off when the model is not being used.
Clean the completed model using a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water, solvents and abrasive cleaning products.
Contains small parts and is unsuitable for children under three years old.
Recommended age: 12+.
